Snap opzich wel dat mensen verrast zijn dat de toon wat anders is dan seizoen 1. Het is een stuk donkerder. Maar vind het echt heel knap geschreven weer. En bewonderenswaardig dat ze dit risico hebben genomen, want het kost ze ook kijkers. Ik vind het zelf in ieder geval een prachtige slag die ze hebben gemaakt.

Understand that people are surprised that the tone is slightly different from season 1. It is a lot darker. But I think it's really well written. And admirable that they took this risk, because it costs them viewers too. In any case, I think it's a great job they've done.

Donker zou ik het niet noemen, maar de thema's zijn wat serieuzer inderdaad. Vooral de aandacht voor mentale gezondheid. Overigens lieten de makers van Ted Lasso al bij seizoen 1 zien maatschappelijk relevant te willen zijn. Het knappe is vooral dat de serieuzere elementen de algehele sfeer niet heel sterk veranderen en met name ook dat het goed past bij de personages. Vooral dan bij Ted zelf. Die psychologe is een mooie toevoeging aan de serie. Daar staat dan tegenover dat Nate aan het eind wel rücksichtslos opgeofferd wordt, dat had wat subtieler gemogen, ik vond dit niet geloofwaardig. (Wel heerlijk gebruik van Karma Police!) Ook het toenemen van de lengte van afleveringen hoeft van mij niet zo, 50 minuten is echt tamelijk lang. Maar het blijft een fijne serie, die je gemakkelijk opzet. Seizoen twee is beter dan de tweede helft van seizoen één, de humor blijft overeind, het familiegevoel neemt toe en de verdieping van de karakters geeft brandstof voor verdere avonturen.

I wouldn't call it dark, but the themes are a bit more serious indeed. Especially the focus on mental health. Incidentally, the makers of Ted Lasso already showed in season 1 that they want to be socially relevant. The great thing is that the more serious elements don't change the overall atmosphere very much and especially that it fits well with the characters. Especially with Ted himself. That psychologist is a nice addition to the series. On the other hand, Nate is sacrificed rücksichtslos at the end, that could have been a bit more subtle, I didn't think this was credible. (Lovely use of Karma Police!) Also increasing the length of episodes is not necessary for me, 50 minutes is really quite long. But it's still a great series, which you can easily set up. Season two is better than the second half of season one, the humor remains, the family feeling increases and the deepening of the characters provides fuel for further adventures.
