As long as there is television, De TV canteen is there. All the stars come together at this location, from Jeroen Pauw to Mary Borsato, from Marc-Marie Huijbrechts to Frits Sissing, from Joop Braakhekke to Ali B and from Kim Holland to Sonja Bakker. The viewer of De TV Kantine experiences the joys and sorrows of the stars. Or as Glennis Grace sings in the title song: ”Look at the stars, how they shine on TV, but in the canteen there you experience it with them: How they laugh, how they cry. When they are off the tube, the TV canteen, every star feels at home there.”

Knap hoe verrassend dicht ze bij de echte personen komen met make-up en protheses, maar het neemt niet weg dat Carlo en Irene nul komisch talent hebben. Vooral veel kinderachtig gedoe.

It's amazing how surprisingly close they get to the real people with make-up and prosthetics, but it doesn't take away that Carlo and Irene have zero comedic talent. Mostly childish stuff.

Bij de TV Kantine heb ik altijd tegenstrijdige gevoelens gehad. Er zitten een aantal erg leuke fragmenten in, maar de serie kent ook een aantal zeer flauwe, kinderachtige en, in het ergste geval, ronduit vervelende scènes. Sommige persiflages lukken heel goed, andere werken totaal niet. Toen dit eerste seizoen uitkwam was ik 12 en vond ik het in eerste instantie een leuk programma. Carlo en Irene komen met hun make-up inderdaad dicht in de buurt van de echte BN'ers, maar eigenlijk kijk je er ook alleen maar om die reden naar: om de herkenning; niet zozeer omdat er veel te lachen valt. Ik vond wel de eerste drie seizoenen stukken beter te pruimen dan alles wat daarna kwam. 2,5*

I have always had conflicting feelings at the TV Canteen. There are some very nice fragments in it, but the series also has some very bland, childish and, at worst, downright annoying scenes. Some parody works very well, others don't work at all. When this first season came out I was 12 and I initially thought it was a nice program. Carlo and Irene do indeed come close to the real celebrities with their make-up, but actually you only look at it for that reason: for recognition; not so much because there is a lot to laugh about. I thought the first three seasons were a lot better than everything that came after that.
