I expected a little more from this. The season that would answer all questions, especially the question regarding the identity of Ougi Oshino. It turns out that answering questions isn't always the cure-all, as it turns out I appreciate enough open-ended movies. Often it is even a bit disappointing when all questions are answered. It feels too easy, or the mystery is gone, when it was the mystery that made things so exciting.

Unfortunately, that also applies a bit to this series. In particular, while I didn't see Ougi's true identity coming, it did fit very well within the universe. Maybe that's why I'm not completely overwhelmed. Or because I expected a bigger conspiracy.

In terms of animation, especially the first first episode is the most interesting with all kinds of strange styles. Animation of the follow-up episodes still remains of a high level, but the play with styles is unfortunately gone. Still, the animation feels like a breath of fresh air after the mediocre Koyomimonogatari. Musically minimal, but very atmospheric.

Furthermore, in terms of dialogues, a more interesting part of the series, partly because of the denouement, but even more because the character Hitagi Senjougahara gets a more prominent role here. She still remains my favorite character in the series because of her wit and strange manners when interacting with other characters.

Above average but not the best in the Monogatari range. Those who want a taste of the universe should try Bakemonogatari or Kizumonogatari, which are the best parts of the series, and both of them can be viewed fairly independently . For this final piece 3.5*.
