Vince Gilligan has suggested he will be done with the Breaking Bad universe now Better Call Saul has reached its conclusion.
After a stint as a staff television writer on the likes of The X-Files, Gilligan created Breaking Bad as well as the Netflix spin-off El Camino and then Better Call Saul.
Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul have been met with almost universal acclaim, and the latter finished when the finale was released on Netflix on 15 August.
Gilligan has created a beloved universe thanks to the two shows, sometimes dubbed as the 'Heisenberg-verse' due to Walter White's alter ego on Breaking Bad.
Due to the success of Better Call Saul, too, fans are naturally clamouring for more, but they are set to be disappointed.
“You can’t keep putting all your money on red 21. I feel like we probably pushed it doing a spinoff to Breaking Bad I could not be more happy with the results," he said.
"Then I did El Camino and I’m very proud of that too. But I think I’m starting to sense you’ve got to know when to leave the party, you don’t want to be the guy with a lampshade on your head.
“I don’t have any plans right now to do anything more in this universe. I know I probably gave the same answer at the end of Breaking Bad. I gotta prove to myself that I got something else in me. I’m not a one-trick pony, that’s what I’m hoping."
Vince Gilligan's new project
According to Deadline, Gilligan is working on a new show away from the drugs, violence and crime of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul.
The publication reports that he will release details on the show within the next few weeks, and that there will be an element of The Twilight Zone, though the plot will still be grounded in reality.
