Dag & Nacht plot
They are available day and night. In the hospital where clinical obstetrician Ella heads the obstetrics department, the staff work long hours. Tough working conditions and a shortage of personnel cause a lot of stress and problems. Every day Ella and her colleagues guide the most diverse births, where pain and ecstasy go hand in hand and moments of deep happiness and fathomless sadness can alternate within a second.

After a few hundred hospital series it is difficult to stay original; in Dag & Nacht, too, all the stories have already been told. Still, screenwriter Kim van Kooten has succeeded in giving the Danish original Dag & Nat by Lone Scherfig a fairly realistic, poignant and Dutch twist. Van Kooten, who himself plays the leading role, has managed to turn it into a well-acted and fresh drama with directors Joram Lürsen (Flying Dutchmen) and Kadir Ferati Balci. With a generous joke here and there.
The maternity ward is central, but Day & Night is much more about male-female relationships in our daily lives. Dag & Nacht is an ode to all heavily burdened (and underpaid) hospital employees in the Netherlands. Applause for care. And for the makers of Dag & Nacht.

It's been a while since I saw it, maybe I'll watch it again soon... Just watched the entire 2nd series and I was super excited about it.
But I also really liked series 1, although Ella's chaotic, distant character is unrealistic...
