In Vlaamse Velden plot
In 10 episodes, 'In Vlaamse Velden' tells the story of the Boesman family from Ghent, who are trying to survive during the First World War. The focus is on the five family members who each experience their own war during four years. Central to the story is 15-year-old Marie (Lize Feryn), who dreams of becoming a doctor, but instead becomes a nurse at the front. Father Philippe (Wim Opbrouck), gynecologist, sees his chance to become a professor at the Flemish university supported by the German occupier. Mother Virginie (Barbara Sarafian) tries her best to keep her family together, but the war drives them apart. Marie's eldest brother Vincent (Matthieu Sys) fights at the front, out of idealism... and will pay a heavy price for it. Guillaume (Wietse Tanghe), her other brother, tries to desert but becomes a soldier against her will.
