Katerina Verbitskaya is a beautiful, smart girl. She is raised as a noble lady according to the wishes of her godmother, but for her environment she is only the property of someone else: a slave girl of Peter Chervinski, the richest landowner in Nizhyn - Chervinskyi. She falls in love with the nobleman Alexey Kosach, who knows nothing of her origin. That causes a lot of problems.
