The Forsyte Saga plot

The Forsyte Saga is the story of the wealthy and arrogant Forsyte family, whose thick layer of gold and good manners, misfortune and drama predominate. An excellent example is the marriage between Soames Forsyte and the impecunious Irene Heron. He is Victorian: arrogant, prudish and selfish. She is beautiful, modern and silently suffers from her troubled marriage. She plunges into an affair with the handsome architect Philip Bosinney, who is killed when Irene tries to run off with him.

The Forsyte Saga season 1

This family chronicle follows three generations in London from 1874 to 1920. It is based on a cycle of novels by John Galsworthy, which had already been made into a film. Much attention has been paid to the fads of clothing and hairstyles, the modernization of vehicles and the changing morals. The music also follows the zeitgeist, from romance to boogie woogie. It is useful to make a family tree to learn how to keep the many relatives apart in the beginning. It revolves around relationships, personal conflicts and financial issues. Births, deaths and marriages often serve as tipping points. Divorce was still very difficult in the Voctorian era, but that too is evolving.

Damian Lewis plays an impressive lead role as the authoritarian, conservative and seemingly unfeeling Soames, with appropriate mannerisms and movements. Gina McKee plays the much more progressive Irene, who enters into a marriage of convenience with him due to lack of money. Various actors in secondary roles are also a discovery, such as Gillian Kearney in the role of the artistic June, or Ben Miles in the comic side role of the gambling addict Monty. This is one of the best in the historical drama genre.
