The Paradise plot

Rivalry, ambition, corruption, emotions running high and love in the ladieswear department. That's what it's all about in The Paradise, an eight-part BBC drama series. Set in 1875, the story is about the ups and downs of the staff at England's very first department store, The Paradise. Central is the young Scottish country girl Denise Lovett, who tries to find her way in the 'big, dangerous' city of Newcastle. Although Denise would have preferred to stay in the safe environment of her family, she also sees that her future lies in Newcastle, home of England's first major department store, The Paradise. As the story progresses, Denise finds herself more and more attracted to a widower Moray, who is already dating the daughter of a wealthy lord.
