A real drama series, don't expect a thriller. It is purely the effect on a family if your child is falsely accused of what is highlighted here. Very slow but interesting and well acted

Good American (court) drama based on the book by William Finlay. 14-year-old Jacob Barber (nice understated role of Jaeden Martell) is accused of murdering a classmate. And while the question of who killed classmate Ben is an ongoing issue, this is mostly a story about an apparently happy family that is in danger of falling apart. Chris Evans (in the role of Andy Barber) makes his father role palpable and human, at all times. For better and for worse.

Defending Jacob is a slow burner in a very........slow........tempo........, but always with good plot twists. Perhaps too quiet for some viewers. The denouement will not please everyone. I thought it was sufficient. The photography is atmospheric; much light seems to have been sucked away. Unfortunately, the sun is also filtered out here and there, while it shines clearly. Personally I don't like this effect. We already 'saw' it, but much worse, with The Chestnut Man. Here it is a minor detail.

Defending Jacob has some ingredients from the feature films We Need To Talk About Kevin (2011 with Tilda Swinton) and Before And After (1996 with Meryl Streep and Liam Neeson). And although Defending Jacob is not necessarily exciting and the wheel is not reinvented, it does intrigue and convince. With good actors, a wonderful soundtrack (Ólafur Arnalds, Broadchurch) and a catchy screenplay.
