A Bit of Fry and Laurie plot

A Bit of Fry and Laurie is a comedy sketch program, cast in a rather eccentric form. Fry and Laurie make extensive use of word games and ambiguity. Some skits are almost vulgar, but they always stop before they cross that line. It is a progressive program that plays with the expectations of the audience. Between the skits, fragments of street interviews are shown in the style of Monty Python's Flying Circus, with irrelevant claims. In addition to the humorous sketches, Laurie shows herself as a versatile musician and singer, with comic songs.

A Bit of Fry and Laurie season 1

These sketches contain the kind of absurd humor that Brits are good at. The humor revolves around absurd dialogues, puns and satire. As with most comedy duos, there is a contradiction between the two members. Stephen Fry speaks with the refined accent of a British intellectual. Hugh Laurie prefers to play the naive folk with the flat accent. Fry is phlegmatic; Laurie choleric.

Their types are an enlargement of people with a certain character trait, eg. the indignant parent versus the progressive educator. There is also physical comedy in it, with a dead-mothered Fry throwing a hard punch at Laurie, as if it were the most normal thing in the world. The two can also be seen together in Blackadder the Third and in Jeeves and Wooster. This series is not well known in the Benelux, but it is essential for lovers of British humour.
