De Outsiders plot

By living in the Netherlands, you participate in social and economic systems. How we live, earn our money, interact with technology and what's on our menu; the options are limited and largely predetermined by others. Whether we like it or not. But there are people who do it differently, who consciously choose a life outside the systems. Who are the people who rebel against the norm? Tim steps into the world of three outsiders in each episode and tries to understand what drives them to live this way. What do these stories say about the oft-imposed rules that govern how we live, and maybe it's time to rethink them?

De Outsiders season 1

Not the nicest series by Tim den Besten, but it makes for touching television how each episode pits different 'outsiders' against each other. They are again wonderful people like Danny the contemporary Robin Hood, who steals from multinationals and gives to ordinary people. But he obediently leaves a cart with fresh bread ('still intended for consumption'). Or Maarten, the flat earth believer, who alienated himself from friends and family, but who formed a fraternization club with like-minded people. And so this introverted cult is at odds with the gay and trans men of Ballroom, who use dance and expression to teach young people that you have to embrace your differentness. Or the young (ex-) vegetarian who shoots her own meat, because she is not against eating meat, but against its mass consumption. Sometimes I don't know if it's good to give certain people a stage - as in the episode health - in which people portrayed can proclaim their non-scientific nonsense. The episodes are also grouped thematically, but I missed a clear conclusion or any explanation. And honestly: I think Den Besten comes into its own best in one-on-one interviews with (semi-) famous guests. Fortunately, a new series of Tim's/\Tent is also on the way!
