Lili & Marleen plot

Lili & Marleen is set during the Second World War and post-war Antwerp on the Antwerp Quays in Café 'De Lichttoren', which is run by mother Lisa. It will never make her rich because her door is always open to everyone. Stavros, a Greek hairdresser who has fled from a German camp, Jef & Ida, a third-rate variety duo and Marleen, an orphaned girl from Limburg, have found a hospitable home with mother Lisa. Mother Lisa's hospitality is not to her brother Rik's liking. After all, Rik enriches himself on the black market and can miss all those snoopers like a toothache.

Lili & Marleen season 1

Nonsense is indeed greatly exaggerated, repeats on VTM attracted (in the summer of this year) 500,000+ viewers, which is by Flemish standards the top five of all programs that run. And I'm so glad they're showing the reruns. I had occasionally picked up an episode from the grandparents, but especially the first seasons I had seen very little of it. Unjustly as it turns out, because what a strongly written series, what a nice variety of characters, even the variety parts of Ida (and to a lesser extent Jef) are very nice. Top work from Flemish soil.
