The Second World War overshadows not only the lives of the people at the front, but also the lives of a group of women in rural Great Paxford in Cheshire. The remote village is far from the impending bloodshed and battlefields, yet it is not immune to the effects of war. As the conflict spreads, the women must separate from their husbands, fathers, sons and brothers. Life needs to be completely adjusted and this is an arduous task for all involved.
