The Gender De Pauw follows Bart De Pauw and his family in their daily activities. To create the illusion that it is a real reality soap, the characters have the same first name as the actors they play. There are also regular references to the real world of the actors. Bart De Pauw, for example, refers to programs he used to make and references are made to Aspe, the police series in which the actress who plays Maaike, Bart De Pauw's wife in the series, also plays a role. However, as the series progresses, the situations in which the De Pauw family ends up become increasingly insane and unbelievable.
