'The Synanon Fix' examines the rise and fall of the Synanon organization through the eyes of the members who were part of it. Synanon, the brainchild of Charles "Chuck" Dederich, started in 1958 as a rehab facility for heroin addicts. Synanon grew rapidly and evolved into a complex system of businesses and an egalitarian community life led by Chuck and his wife Betty. Over time, the therapies became more and more extreme, evolving into paranoid behavior and cult-like mandates and culminating in accusations of child abuse, sexual assault and even attempted murder.
