The Mist plot

The Mist follows a small village family turned upside down by a brutal crime. Suddenly, a thick fog sweeps over the village, segregating the residents from the outside world and, in some cases, from each other. Family, friends and rivals must fight together against the mysterious fog and the threats in the fog. Meanwhile, they face insanity and moral dilemmas.

Deze reeks is losjes gebaseerd op de gelijknamige thriller van Stephen King, een boek dat eerder reeds werd verfilmd. In de genre-aanduiding bij deze reeks staat drama/horror, en het is terecht dat drama op de eerste plaats staat. De horror-elementen zijn slechts spaarzaam aanwezig, hoewel het geenszins een vrolijke serie betreft. The Mist handelt vooral over een gemeenschap die opeens wordt afgesloten van de buitenwereld, en dat zorgt voor de nodige spanningen en machtsontplooiingen tussen de verscheidene mensen. De serie is erg vergelijkbaar met Under the Dome, ook een King-bewerking, en dat is net waar de serie de mist ingaat; het komt allemaal wat slapjes over en geeft me nauwelijks koude rillingen. Ik begrijp ook niet goed waarom de makers dit verhaal over tien afleveringen uitsmeren. Ik heb in de commentaar hierboven gelezen dat er geen tweede seizoen zal komen, en op basis van de behoorlijk goeie finale vind ik dat best jammer. Was het niet beter geweest het eerste seizoen tot een aflevering of 6 te beperken (zoals bijvoorbeeld het eerste seizoen van The Walking Dead)? Op die manier was het wat minder langgerekt geweest, en had men toch tot dezelfde conclusie kunnen komen. Vooral in het middenrif zitten een aantal afleveringen met heel wat overbodig materiaal. Ik had een tweede seizoen best zien zitten, want er leek genoeg stof voor te zijn. Anderzijds zijn er series genoeg om te volgen, ook in dit genre, dus een echt gemis zal het niet zijn. 2,5 sterren

This series is loosely based on the Stephen King thriller of the same name, a book that has already been made into a film. The genre designation for this series reads drama/horror, and it's right that drama comes first. The horror elements are only sparsely present, although it is by no means a cheerful series. The Mist mainly deals with a community that is suddenly cut off from the outside world, and that causes the necessary tensions and power development between the various people.

The series is very similar to Under the Dome, also a King adaptation, which is where the series goes wrong; it all seems a bit flimsy and hardly gives me the chills. I also don't understand why the makers spread this story over ten episodes. I read in the comments above that there won't be a second season, and based on the pretty good finale, I think that's a shame. Wouldn't it have been better to limit the first season to about 6 episodes (like the first season of The Walking Dead)? That way it would have been less elongated, and yet the same conclusion could have been reached. Especially in the midriff are a number of episodes with a lot of superfluous material.

I would have liked a second season, because there seemed to be enough material for it. On the other hand, there are plenty of series to follow, also in this genre, so it won't be a real loss.

Vind het een redelijk 'kijkbare' serie, meer ook niet. De opzet is aardig maar al vrij snel zakt het in. Ik stoorde me net als Biosguru aan allerlei 'themaatjes' die de revue nogal opzichtig passeren (moeizame relaties tussen ouder-kind en broers, een soort high school liefde voor de tiener-kijkers, genderneutr. etc.), maar veel belangrijk vind ik het gebrek aan een goede soundtrack/score en spanning, dingen die onmisbaar zijn voor een mystery/drama/horror.

I think it's a fairly 'watchable' series, nothing more. The setup is nice but it soon collapses. Just like Biosguru, I was annoyed by all kinds of 'themes' that are discussed rather showy (difficult relationships between parent-child and brothers, a kind of high school love for the teenage viewers, gender neutral. etc. .), but I find the lack of a good soundtrack/score and suspense very important, things that are indispensable for a mystery/drama/horror.

Fijne serie. Ik heb me geen moment verveeld. De laatste drie afleveringen hadden me echt in mijn greep. De lage score (vooral op IMDB) begrijp ik dan ook niet. Vanwege die score heb ik het lange tijd opzij geschoven, maar dit vind ik leuker dan bijvoorbeeld Van Helsing die net een beetje hoger scoort. Jammer dat The Mist gecancelled is gezien het einde van dit seizoen. Ik heb nu net zo'n zin in meer hiervan. De film vond ik trouwens een draak van een vertolking.

Nice series. I was never bored. The last three episodes really had me gripped. I don't understand the low score (especially on IMDB). Because of that score I pushed it aside for a long time, but I like this more than, for example, Van Helsing who scores just a little higher. Too bad The Mist has been canceled due to the end of this season. I'm just in the mood for more of this now. I actually thought the movie was a great rendition.
