Harry is a brilliant but tormented detective struggling with his inner demons after losing his best friend. His colleague and archrival, Tom Waaler, operates on the opposite side of the law. As the two navigate the murky ethical boundaries of the criminal justice system, Harry must do everything he can to catch a serial killer and bring the corrupt Waaler to justice before it's too late.

Mijn vrouw zei na de vijfde aflevering, duurt dit nog lang want ik ga het wel uitkijken maar het is helemaal niet al te best voor een Scandinavische serie. Zoals meestal heeft ze gelijk. Ook al doet de geweldige Santelmann nog zo zijn best het pakt mij helemaal niet. Het schiet alle kanten uit en dan dat belachelijk gedoe van die bendes met die irritante jongeren. Zoals The Daily Mail terecht zegt, beter gewoon Nesbo lezen. Als je een goede Noorse serie wil zien, er zijn er genoeg goede zoals bij mij de allerbeste Exit, met ook Santelmann in een hoofdrol. Ik word de laatste tijd niet al te blij van het aanbod van Netflix...

My wife said after the fifth episode, "Is this going to take much longer? I am going to watch it all the way through, but it’s not all that great for a Scandinavian series." As is usually the case, she is right. No matter how hard the amazing Santelmann tries, it just doesn't grab me at all.

It's getting all over the place, and then that ridiculous nonsense about those gangs with those annoying youths. As The Daily Mail rightly says, better just read Nesbo.

If you want to watch a good Norwegian series, there are plenty of good ones, like the very best for me: Exit, which also stars Santelmann in a leading role.

Lately, I haven't been too happy with Netflix's selection...

Geweldige serie. Vooral de slotaflevering is bloedstollend spannend. Er zijn een aantal verhaallijnen rondom Harry Hole. Goed overzichtelijk weergegeven. De problematiek van het wapens dragen door de Noorse politie speelt een prominente rol. Toch maken ze er gretig gebruik van. Een paar situaties in de serie kan ik niet goed plaatsen en die niet goed worden afgerond. Natuurlijk wil Nesbo je ook op het verkeerde spoor brengen. En dat lukt aardig. Lekker tempo in de serie. Prima camerawerk. En de acteurs zijn van grote klasse en vooral goed gecast. Zonder andere acteurs tekort willen doen, vind ik de acteur die Tom speelt (Joel Kinnaman) als super creep klasse. Kortom een degelijke Noorse serie, die vraagt om een vervolg.

Great series. The final episode, in particular, is nail-bitingly suspenseful.

There are several storylines surrounding Harry Hole. Well and clearly presented.

The issue of weapons carrying by the Norwegian police plays a prominent role. Yet they make eager use of them.

I can't quite place a few situations in the series that aren't resolved well. Of course, Nesbo also wants to lead you astray. And he succeeds quite well.

Nice pace in the series.

Great camerawork.

And the actors are top-notch and, above all, well-cast. Without wanting to detract from the other actors, I think the actor who plays Tom (Joel Kinnaman) as the super creep is excellent.

In short, a solid Norwegian series that calls for a sequel.

Typisch Netflix, deze serie gebaseerd op het boek The Devil's Star van Jo Nesbø. Heel druk en chaotisch in het begin, met een overdaad aan verhaallijnen om er vooral voor te zorgen dat je blijft kijken. Op dat punt haakte ik juist bijna af, maar gelukkig wordt het daarna snel beter. Het had voor mij allemaal wel wat rustiger opgebouwd mogen worden, maar vooruit. Genoeg spanning en gruwelijke toestanden om de aandacht er bij te houden, in ieder geval. En de personages zijn erg leuk, met vooral Joel Kinnaman een geniale vondst als corrupte agent. Die gaat hier echt volledig los, heerlijk.

Typical Netflix, this series based on the book The Devil's Star by Jo Nesbø. Very busy and chaotic at the beginning, with an abundance of storylines designed mainly to ensure you keep watching. At that point, I actually almost tuned out, but fortunately, it improves quickly afterward. For me, it could have been built up a bit more gradually, but oh well. Enough suspense and gruesome situations to keep your attention, in any case. And the characters are great fun, with Joel Kinnaman being a particularly brilliant choice as the corrupt cop. He really goes completely wild here; it's delightful.
