Season 2 of Tour de France: Unchained fits seamlessly into the first season. Another catchy warm-up for the upcoming Tour. The episodes are organized into themes: the battle for the general classification, the sprinters, the day victories, the mutual competition and of course Gino Mäder, who passed away shortly before the 2023 Tour. All this interspersed with insights into the team bus and explanations by journalists and experts. The latter group adds little besides a lot of droning and hollow phrases.

Tour de France: Unchained looks like an extended commercial, but it certainly manages to fascinate. Forget the noise, the pumped-up rhetoric and the jittery editing. What remains is a story about riders - king or water bearer - in one of the toughest sports in the world. Athletes with doubts and insecurities, angry or disappointed. With illusions that shatter on the French road surface. And very occasionally with a dream come true.

Even better than the excellent first season, this time with even more spectacle, tension and drama. The grueling cycling stages are depicted in a particularly compelling way, aided by effective use of music and truly first-class editing. I really like this and I hope that the series will continue.
