Rough Diamonds plot

Noah Wolfson returns to Antwerp after years ago turning his back on his family and the ultra-Orthodox Jewish way of life. He discovers that his brother has troubled the once powerful family business by trading diamonds with shady partners. Despite the strained relationship with his parents, brother and sister, Noah tries to salvage the case and restore the family's honor. It is the start of an avalanche of problems that the family unwillingly sucks into the criminal underworld. In addition, Noah struggles with the orthodox way of life and the once united and powerful Wolfson family is completely divided over his return and the future of their diamond company.

Behoorlijke serie vol nieuwe verhaalelementen, wendingen, ontwikkelingen. De vaart zit er goed in en de Joodse context is een origineel gegeven. Kevin Janssens zet hier weer een zalige rol neer. Opmerkelijk toch hoe hij geloofwaardig overkomt als tough guy én als loser (bv. in die Ferry-serie). Ook opmerkelijk is hoe weinig deining het veroorzaakt wanneer gojem zich verkleden als Jood . Had de hele tijd een onwennig jewface gevoel naar analogie met blackface, al moet wel gezegd dat Robbie Cleiren het met zoveel overgave doet dat je het echt gelooft. Aanrader voor liefhebbers van het misdaadgenre.

Decent series full of new story elements, twists and developments. The pace is good and the Jewish context is an original feature. Kevin Janssens plays a wonderful role here again. It's remarkable how he comes across as believable as a tough guy and as a loser (e.g. in that Ferry series). Also remarkable is how little commotion it causes when gojem dress up as a Jew . I had an awkward jewfacefeeling the entire time, analogous to blackface, although it must be said that Robbie Cleiren does it with so much dedication that you really believe it. Recommended for fans of the crime genre.
