1985 plot

The two best friends Marc and Franky embark on a career with the gendarmerie in the very turbulent eighties, when the Bende van Nijvel spreads terror by committing brutal robberies. The young recruits at the gendarmerie end up in the middle of an internal battle. Franky's sister Vicky is now studying law, where she sees her left-wing ideals collide with those of her brother.

Na de vijfde aflevering gezien te hebben, kan ik stellen dat de serie zeer goede elementen bevat: - goede muziek - veel nieuwe gezichten, wat de kijkervaring enkel ten goede komt - het constante gevoel van dreiging - goed camerawerk - gebruik van echte journaalbeelden, wat het geheel zeer authentiek doet overkomen - echte jaren '80 sfeer - het feit dat het Brussels dialect mooi in het uitstalraam wordt geplaatst Het enige minpunt is wel dat ik een soort van rode draad mis. Er zijn echter nog drie afleveringen te gaan, dus wie weet worden we als kijker nog aangenaam verrast

After having seen the fifth episode, I can say that the series contains very good elements:

- good music

- many new faces, which only improves the viewing experience

- the constant feeling of threat

- good camera work

- use of real news footage, which makes the whole look very authentic

- real 80's atmosphere

- the fact that the Brussels dialect is nicely placed in the showcase

The only downside is that I'm missing some kind of common thread. However, there are still three episodes to go, so who knows, we as viewers will be pleasantly surprised

Na de laatste aflevering blijkt er toch een soort van rode draad doorheen de serie te lopen, m.n. de vragen waarmee hoofdpersonage Marc De Vuyst is blijven worstelen na de dood van z'n vader. Ik vind dat de focus op die rode draad na de eerste aflevering wat naar de achtergrond verdwijnt, om dan in de laatste aflevering weer helemaal op de voorgrond te treden... Een ronduit geniale vondst van de scenarioschrijver is de verklaring die wordt gegeven aan het mysterie rond de zak met wapens die in 1986 in het kanaal Brussel-Charleroi ter hoogte van Ronquière werd gevonden. De twist waarbij Rijkswachtadjudant Goffinard zo ineens aan z'n einde komt, voelt dan weer aan als een Deus Ex Machina. Het is echter een schoonheidsfoutje dat ik met plezier met de mantel der liefde wil bedekken. Ik blijf bij m'n score van 4 op 5. Deze serie bevestigt m.i. opnieuw dat het niveau van series in Vlaanderen veel hoger ligt dan het niveau van films

After the last episode, there appears to be a kind of common thread running through the series, especially the questions that main character Marc De Vuyst has continued to struggle with after the death of his father. I think that's the focus on that common thread after the first episode that fades into the background, only to come to the fore again in the last episode ...

A genius invention by the screenwriter is the explanation given to the mystery surrounding the bag of weapons found in 1986 in the Brussels-Charleroi canal near Ronquière. The twist in which Goffinard Goffinard suddenly comes to an end, feels like a Deus Ex Machina. However, it is a minor flaw that I would be happy to cover with the cloak of love.

I stick to my score of 4 out of 5. This series confirms again that the level of series in Flanders is much higher than the level of films

Behoorlijk donkere en cynische fact fiction serie over de jaren '80 in België. Op de achtergrond speelt het macabere Bende van Nijvel-gebeuren zich af. De makers kozen voor de piste van Waalse extreem-rechtse politiemensen die in Vlaanderen jacht kwamen maken op onschuldige burgers met medeweten van en toedekking door de francofone Belgische staat. Een behoorlijk gewaagde serie dus. Oude getrouwen en pittige nieuwkomers tillen de serie naar een hoger niveau. Drama haalt het van actie, maar dat mag de pret niet drukken. Goede productie, meer van dat!

Pretty dark and cynical fact fiction series about the 1980s in Belgium. The macabre Bende van Nijvel event takes place in the background. The makers chose the track of Walloon extreme right-wing police officers who came to hunt innocent civilians in Flanders with the knowledge of and cover-up by the francophone Belgian state. A pretty daring series. Old faithful and spicy newcomers take the series to the next level. Drama trumps action, but that shouldn't spoil the fun. Good production, more of that!
