Season 2 of House of the Dragon is a lot better than the first. Where season 1 was basically all court scheming, with hardly any scenes outside the castle, I get a lot more of the Game of Thrones feeling back in season 2: we now get a much broader view of what all that court scheming does to the common people, all kinds of scenes in the city, beautifully designed with all its rawness and beautiful wide-angle shots of the country when dragons are flown; that also happens a lot more now. And the story finally grabs me, because there is something at stake: I feel more involved with the characters (was difficult in season 1 with all those time jumps) and my sympathy is now clearly pulled to one side. As an extra, we also get a few small Game of Thrones elements that give a hint of what is to come 200 years later. And I don't understand the negative comments here about the acting at all. I would like to see examples of that, because as I see it, everyone is doing a great job.

Lots of court drama and especially a lot of chess on your own half. I think that's season 2 in a nutshell.

Season 1 was also a lot of chess, but on someone else's half. That's why S1 had a bit more pace than this season. This season actually seemed to be heading towards a set-up for season 3 from episode 3. Also, two episodes less were deliberately made and that's why I already felt the mood coming regarding the set-up aspect.

This doesn't mean that the season was bad. Not at all, but there were some storylines that all lasted a bit too long. "Uh huh" 'Daemon'. It's still phenomenal writing, but season 1 was more on the level of Game of Thrones.

Speaking of Game of Thrones. This season, you get to know the other houses more and see more outside the castle. Great to hear Winterfell with its theme song again. Lannister theme song also made its comeback.

Where I do find House of the Dragon to stand out in GoT is the acting. Considine, D'Arcy, Smith, Cooke, Glynn-Carney and Ifans, really lift this series to a higher level.

Because of the last episode I do expect a cracker of a first episode in S3. Unfortunately that is still certain at the moment, 1.5 years to wait…

Disappointing second season, slow and tedious. Where Game Of Thrones may have too many plot lines, House Of The Dragon has too few. Plot and characters drag on a bit. Fortunately, we still have the impressive dragons to provide the necessary spectacle. As soon as they appear on screen, the series is great. Unfortunately, the predominantly boring human characters demand most of the time and attention.
