Slightly better than the rather boring and stretched third season, but still not up to standard. The mystery here is quite intriguing and the events are attractively portrayed, but this time too the plot is unnecessarily drawn out. Bill Pullman is as always the rock in the surf and makes it worth watching.

Bill Pullman has starred as the quiet, kind and tormented detective Harry Ambrose for four seasons. In S4 he is now retired, but on the idyllic and fictional Hanover Island a case demands his attention. Jessica Biel, executive producer for four seasons, is in control; scenario and elaboration are from the booklet.
As usual, a new case in The Sinner revolves around a lot of mystery and red herrings (sic!), performed by an excellent cast. The decor deserves a special mention. Filmed in Canada (Nova Scotia, Lunenburg) almost a Scandinavian atmosphere emerges. The sun, the sea, colored wooden houses... Am I lost in a season of the Sandhamn Murders? Certainly not. While S4 isn't the strongest season, The Sinner remains a rock-solid formula with an amiable protagonist who fights his own demons.

As far as I'm concerned, the Bill Pullman effect has worn off a bit. Plot is a bit thin for how long it all takes.
Nevertheless, quite an okay season. The setting on the island creates a pleasant atmosphere. And you keep wondering how it all works, so the mystery element is good. It is not very exciting, the bad guys are not threatening enough for that.
Furthermore, some illogical things here and there, but that is what this series is known for. One moment Ambrose cannot safely show up outside and has to run for his life, the next he is walking across the island without any problems.
I think this series has been great now.
