Wow, completely blown away by this fantastic creepy series. Gets off to a good start and halfway through is really reminiscent of a good film adaptation of a Stephen King story. I fervently hope that season 2 comes.

Unfortunately, I saw few real scary horror films in 2019, ingenious (Midsommar) and very gore (The Golden Glove) but nothing that really freaked me out in a good old-fashioned way. Fortunately, Marianne more than made up for that loss. It doesn't happen often that a series or movie manages to lift my neck hairs. Cheers!

Okay, so I'm much more into 'human' horror than supernatural horror that wants to be serious. The latter only works well for me when other aspects really stand out, such as atmosphere (Penny Dreadful), setting and camera work (The Shining) or suggestive power (The Blair Witch Project).

At House on the Haunted Hill I can't get any further... But I beat Marianne through it. What a nice unpolished atmosphere, gray, grubby with a few freaky scenes. It has such a raw, French edge that reminds me a bit of the French horror film Wave in the Zeroes. That makes some clichés and scary moments manageable.

The 'witch' is well cast and played. Her ugly head, dirty skirt, the stark look in her eyes when she keeps cutting her arm for a long time Those kinds of moments and the atmosphere do it for me. It's a pity that they become a lot less from episode five (with the return to fifteen years ago and as soon as Marianne 'chooses' a different body each time).

Fortunately, there are no overly annoying characters. An occasional soundtrack that feels inappropriate, but the rest of the soundtrack is ominous. The editing is also nice, a bit distorted now and then and Emma is spot on.

Wjah I really enjoyed Marianne, finally another cool horror series. First half 4.5*, second 3 - 3.5*, benefit of the doubt.

Very impressed, the first episode sucked me right in. Fifth episode provides sufficient explanation. Leading role is perfectly cast, images are extremely strong, the story is very well put together. Enough scare moments, moments that want to make you look away but that you keep looking at, here and there the necessary rancidity. Musically perfect timing as well as all the other choices. Footage is fluid and smooth and perfectly sprouted (I really liked those extremely short frames in the first episodes, often stopped to watch them). And what a choice for the witch in the first episodes, top casting.

Watched in a dark room and I have to say it has been a while since I was so deep in a horror film or series. Recently seen among others It Chapter Two, Pet Sematary, The Invitation, Scary Stories to tell in the dark etc but when you see this you can only conclude that the names mentioned are just very average.

Very strong, probably the best I've seen in 2019 in terms of series.
