The Dukes of Hazzard plot

The Dukes of Hazzard is set in rural Georgia in Hazzard County, a fictional county. At the center is the Duke family, consisting of Jesse, his cousins Bo and Luke, and his niece Daisy. Bo and Luke have a car, the General Lee, a Dodge Charger 1969 RT, with which they regularly hold races and perform stunts. The Dukes are often at odds with the local authorities: Mayor, JD ("Boss") Hogg, and Sheriff Rosco. Boss Hogg is corrupt to the core, and for various reasons has provided for the Dukes' farm. His plans to obtain it, as well as others of his nefarious schemes, are often thwarted by the Dukes. Hogg often hires out-of-town criminals to help him portray the Dukes in a bad light, seizing every opportunity to have the Dukes arrested.

Recent had ik het geluk in Nashville te zijn. Naast alle toplocaties voor muziek bevindt er zich ook een Dukes of Hazzard museum. Het is eigendom van Ben Jones - Cooter - die er al zijn in de loop de jaren verzamelde memorabilia verzameld heeft. Bij de grote stukken bevindt er zich een General Lee die hij nog persoonlijk gebruikt heeft en een jeep die effectief in de serie gebruikt is. Het bezoek aan dit museum was een trip down memory lane van een serie waar ik begin jaren ‘80 als kind van genoten heb. De bij momenten spectaculaire achtervolgingen zijn me altijd bijgebleven. Terug in België kreeg ik zin om de serie te herbekijken. En dat heb ik me nog niet beklaagd. Het is een serie met “good spirits”, tongue in cheek humor, leuke personages. Het hele countryside gebeuren van de fictieve county Hazzard wordt lekker in de verf gezet. Bo en Luke Duke gebruiken bijvoorbeeld geen vuurwapens maar pijl en boog als de nood het hoogst is. De accenten klinken lekker zuiders. Boss Hogg rijdt rond in een Cadillac zoals er ook eentje staat in het Country Music Hall of Fame & Museum inclusief stierenhoorns. Het hele gebeuren is zowat met een korrel zout te nemen. En dan is er nog de geslaagde bijdrage van country legend Waylon Jennings. Hij heeft het theme gecomponeerd en gebracht met zijn band. En hij verzorgt in droge stijl de voice over die af en toe commentaar levert bij de gebeurtenissen. Dit is 100 % ongecompliceerde ontspanning uit vervlogen tijden en liefst met het verstand op nul. De General Lee raast over het scherm als vanouds. In totaal hebben ze er zo 325 in de prak gereden voor deze serie.

Among the large pieces there is a General Lee that he used personally and a jeep that was actually used in the series. The visit to this museum was a trip down memory lane of a series I enjoyed as a child in the early 80s. The sometimes spectacular chases have always stayed with me.

Back in Belgium I felt like rewatching the series. And I haven't complained about that yet. It is a series with “good spirits”, tongue in cheek humor, fun characters. The entire countryside of the fictional county of Hazzard is nicely highlighted. For example, Bo and Luke Duke do not use firearms but bow and arrow when the need is greatest. The accents sound nice and southern. Boss Hogg drives around in a Cadillac like the one in the Country Music Hall of Fame & Museum, including bull horns. The whole thing can almost be taken with a grain of salt. And then there is the successful contribution of country legend Waylon Jennings. He composed the theme and performed it with his band. And he provides the voice over in a dry style that occasionally comments on the events.

This is 100% uncomplicated relaxation from a bygone era and preferably with your mind at zero. The General Lee races across the screen as usual. In total they smashed 325 for this series.
