Karppi plot

Just months after the tragic loss of her husband, a Finnish police team detective, Sofia Karppi, investigates the murder of a woman associated with a construction company in Helsinki. The body is buried on the shore. Soon, Sofi and her new partner suspect the victim's disgruntled ex-client. Meanwhile, Sofi also has to raise her two children without a father.

Onderhoudende finse politieserie, hier en daar niet al te geloofwaardig, maar wel spannend en bevolkt door sympathieke personages. Vooral de lekker tegendraadse hoofdrolspeelster Pihla Viitala is erg leuk (en mooi). De wisselwerking tussen haar en collega tegen wil en dank Lauri Tilkanen vormt het hart van de serie. De plot is niet al te complex maar steekt evenwel vernuftig in elkaar, met genoeg wendingen en verrassingen om je als kijker bij de les te houden. Het fraaie winterse finse landschap draagt flink bij aan de sfeer.

Entertaining Finnish police series, not too believable here and there, but exciting and populated by sympathetic characters. Especially the nice contrarian lead actress Pihla Viitala is very nice (and beautiful). The interaction between her and her reluctant colleague Lauri Tilkanen forms the heart of the series. The plot is not too complex but is cleverly put together, with enough twists and surprises to keep the viewer on their toes. The beautiful wintery Finnish landscape contributes considerably to the atmosphere.

Voor mij één van de betere Scandinavische misdaadseries alhoewel Bron (Serie, 2011 - 2018) (The Bridge) niet geëvenaard wordt. Het leek zelfs af en toe of Karppi de trekjes van haar collega uit The Bridge, Saga Norén, aan het imiteren was. Seizoen 1 was qua duur iets teveel van het goede. Het is wel aan te bevelen om dit eerst te kijken voordat aan het tweede seizoen wordt begonnen. Seizoen 2 was qua plot en lengte beter dan seizoen 1. Beide seizoenen hebben een prima cast en de spanning wordt prima opgebouwd richting het einde. Het slot bevat een zekere afronding, maar er zitten daarnaast elementen in die een vervolg mogelijk maken, m.a.w..... Seizoen 3: komt eraan!

For me one of the better Scandinavian crime series, although Source (Series, 2011 - 2018) (The Bridge) is unmatched. It even seemed at times as if Karppi was imitating the traits of her colleague from The Bridge, Saga Norén.

Season 1 was a bit too much of a good thing in terms of duration. It is recommended to watch this first before starting the second season.

Season 2 was better than season 1 in terms of plot and length.

Both seasons have a good cast and the tension builds up nicely towards the end. The ending contains a certain completion, but there are also elements in it that make a sequel possible, in other words ....
