Zac Efron paid tribute to Matthew Perry at a ceremony unveiling his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

In October, the Friends star tragically died in his home in Los Angeles after drowning in his jacuzzi. The outpouring of grief from friends, family and fans was massive and it will probably be a while before the devastating news truly sinks in for many.

Efron and Perry worked together on 17 Again and developed a friendship, with Perry acting as a mentor to his younger colleague.

“I really also want to mention someone that is not here today, and that’s Matthew Perry, who was so kind and generous with me when we worked on 17 Again," Efron said at his Walk of Fame ceremony.

“Collaborating with him...it was so much fun and it really did propel me and motivate me in so many ways. It really pushed me into the next chapter of my career, for that, thank you so much, Matthew.

“Thinking about you a lot today."

Efron to play Matthew Perry in a biopic?

One of the last people to spend time with Perry was model and entertainment reporter Athenna Crosby, who revealed to People that the Friends star “wanted to make a movie about his life and have a biopic made and wanted Zac Efron, who's played him already, to play him again because he said he did such a good job.”

The pair had dinner together, and Crosby also testified to Perry's sobriety and strong mental health during their conversation.

Efron responded to the revelation that Perry wanted his 17 Again co-star to play him.

"I’m honoured to hear he was thinking of me to play him, I’d be honoured to do it. He was a mentor to me, and we made a really cool film together," the Iron Claw star told People.

“I looked up to him, I learned comedic timing from that guy. I mean, when we were filming ’17 Again’ it was so surreal for me to look across and have him be there, because I’ve learned so much from him, from his whole life,"
