Talk to Me star Sophie Wilde believes horror movies should receive more recognition when it comes to the big award shows.
Historically, Academy Awards for Best Film, Best Actor, Best Actress etc. do not go to movies or performances within horror movies. There are a couple of exceptions, of course, such as Silence of the Lambs sweeping a lot of the board in 1991.
There are a few recent examples of horror performances which many believe are Oscar, Golden Globe or BAFTA-worthy, such as Tony Colette's terrifying, haunting role in Hereditary.
Wilde has been nominated for BAFTA's Rising Star award this year, but spoke about the overall treatment horror movies get in awards season.
"I feel that's definitely a conversation that seems to be constantly going around every award season when a big horror film comes around," she told TotalFilm.
"You think of Toni Collette in Hereditary or Mia Goth (in Pearl) last year.
"I find that such an interesting thing because, especially performance-wise, horror requires actors to really stretch themselves in those performances and it requires the same amount of emotional depth, heart, and talent that I'd say a lot of comedy or a drama requires."

A group of friends discover a way to summon ghosts using an ancient embalmed hand. They become addicted to the new sensation until one of them goes too far and opens the door to the spirit world. Talk to Me was one of the breakout horror movies of 2022 and told the story of a group of friends who are able to communicate with spirits using an embalmed hand. Naturally, those spirits end up causing mayhem.
It received critical acclaim, with a sequel already set for development.
Wilde played Mia in the movie, who is in crisis even before the supernatural elements kick in as she is dealing with the suicide of her mother.
"It felt like a drama to me in a lot of ways," she explained. "It's really exciting as an actor, to be able to play someone who gets to operate in so many different spaces as people are so multifaceted, and grief is such a multifaceted experience."
