Star Wars: Starfighter has confirmed the casting of its primary villain.
The iconic franchise has become known over the decades for producing some of the most legendary villains in history including Darth Vader, Kylo Ren and Emperor Palpatine.
Details of the new character in Starfighter are unknown, but it has been confirmed by Deadline that he will be played by House of the Dragon star Matt Smith.
Star Wars: Starfighter stars Ryan Gosling and will be directed by Deadpool and Wolverine helmer Shawn Levy, with Jonathan Tropper penning the script.
It has been confirmed that the movie is a standalone adventure and won't be a prequel or sequel to any existing Star Wars film, though it takes place five years after the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
Shawn Levy discusses Star Wars
Levy has confirmed that he has been given permission to make the movie completely in his image.
"When Kathy Kennedy brought me on board to make a Star Wars movie, her central mandate to me was 'I want a Shawn Levy movie. I want a story and a tone that reflects you and your taste and what you bring to your movies — with a Star Wars story.' So I have felt extremely empowered," he told Variety.
