John Boyega has shut down suggestions that he has already joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Over the last six months speculation has gathered pace that the British actor has already filmed a secret cameo for an unnamed MCU movie.
The rumours gathered pace from Giant Freakin Robot, an online blog, and were fuelled by Boyega's previous praise of Marvel for elevating minorities.
Speaking to NPR's Fresh Air, he previously said:
“The characters are only as good as the moments that you give them. When we talk about, you know, Captain America and him kind of facing off against Thanos and his army, when you talk about these moments that are given to characters, it’s only because these moments are written by somebody. These moments are put in there on purpose to elevate characters.
“We’ve got people now watching Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and a lot of people have been commenting about the elevation of Falcon’s character in the series and how they’ve really done well with bringing him up, which I also agree as well. You know, that’s because you give characters these special moments.
"But then what happens when, you know, some moments feels like you’re being bypassed and it kind of goes for years and years and things pile on?”
Boyega has previously been critical of the Star Wars franchise for marginalising the ethnic minority characters played by himself and Kelly Marie Tran in the sequel trilogy.
No MCU for Boyega
In an interview with Men's Health, Boyega was asked about the MCU rumours, and it appears we don't be seeing him with any superpowers just yet.
“That’s not in the vision for me now,” he responded.
“I want to do nuanced things. . . . I want to donate my services to original indie films that come with new, fresh ideas, because I know it’s real hard to top Iron Man in that universe.”
