It is unlikely that Harry Styles will make another appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The pop superstar had a small cameo role as Eros in a post-credits scene in Eternals, where he appeared alongside the character of Pip.
Initially, the plan was for Styles to then feature in a spin-off movie focusing on those two characters - a movie that would have earned him a $10 million payday. However, Marvel have recently decided to scale back the amount of projects within the MCU, and the Eros and Pip feature has been sacrificed before getting off the ground.
"Marvel bosses were openly talking about Harry in a lead role but that talk has cooled," a Marvel source told the Sunday Mirror.
"The whole business and Marvel franchise is being rethought. The focus is on creating the biggest projects with the biggest revenues. Harry's character is a fun and beloved role but it is not realistically the number one choice to get the Marvel franchise bouncing back".
Within the comic books, Eros is the brother of Thanos so it was a possibility that we might have seen Josh Brolin make a return as the Avengers villain in some capacity, probably in a flashback.
Harry Styles' MCU future
Interestingly, the reports emerging now contrast the words of Marvel producer Nate Moore, who said earlier this year that Styles did indeed have a future as Eros within the MCU.
"We certainly didn't cast Harry for a tag. I mean, again – And a character (that) maybe I have too much affection for, because he's had some problematic runs in publishing. But there are more stories to be told with the character," Moore explained to Deadline.
"He has a really interesting connection with Thanos; they're half-brothers and share the same father. He has an interesting power set.
"He's a complicated character, but a really fun character. And I think... having met Harry Styles, he is as charming as you want him to be. And I think there's no limit to how good that character's going to be once we get to bring him back."
As well as embarking on a record-breaking world tour, Styles is acting on a consistent basis and most recently appeared in Don't Worry Darling and My Policeman.
