Cancelled Incredible Hulk sequel would have seen Grey-Hulk and Red-Hulk debut

The director of The Incredible Hulk, Louis Leterrier, has revealed the initial plans for an unproduced sequel that would have seen Edward Norton return as Bruce Banner.

There have been two movies produced which focus on that character - Hulk and The Incredible Hulk. Eric Bana played Banner in the first movie before he was replaced by Norton for the second.

The inconsistent casting would continue as the Marvel Cinematic Universe grew, as Mark Ruffalo would take on the role for The Avengers as well as numerous subsequent movies and television shows within the MCU.

Leterrier's planned sequel would have seen Grey-Hulk and Red-Hulk make their big-screen debuts.

"Yeah there was like a whole sequel. There was like Grey Hulk, Red Hulks – there was a lot of good stuff that we were planning," he told ComicBook.com.

"Hulk is a complex character within the Marvel Universe. You want the primeval Hulk... the rage Hulk. And then when you go Grey Hulk and Smart Hulk you lose that a little bit and you get a little bit more kiddish with it.

"But that was the fun of where I was in my movie, with the access to consciousness and all that stuff. That was really fun. And that's what I was aiming to do. But take my time with it. Because there are so many characters they want it all fast . I like She-Hulk, but then you know, yoga between Hulk and... I was like 'Okay! yeah, we're very far from my Hulk.'"

When will Mark Ruffalo stop playing The Hulk?

While several of his Avengers co-stars like Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans have retired from their roles as Iron Man and Captain America respectively, Ruffalo isn't looking to move on from Hulk just yet.

"I don’t know! I’m always surprised that I’m still here," he previously told Variety when asked how much longer he will play Banner.

"I mean, me and Ed Norton joke that the Hulk is like our generation’s Hamlet — we’re all going to get a shot at it. I keep waiting for the next version of it. I mean, I’ll probably do it as long as they’ll have me, if people are interested, and I can bring something that’s interesting to me to it, and interesting to the fans.

"But I have no idea. I mean, you know, when you look at the comics, there’s some pretty grizzled, old versions of him. I’m like, OK, the 67-year-old Hulk, that would be interesting — if all of us are still here making movies and there’s a world that allows for us to do that anymore.

"With what we’re living in and heading towards, the future feels more precarious than any other time. So I don’t want to get too far ahead of myself.

"But I hope I’m still around to do it."

Ruffalo last appeared as the character in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.
