The Marksman plot

Mike Martin becomes a deputy US marshal in the early days of Texas because of his near-unbelievable marksmanship. Mike hates the thought of being hired as a murderer instead of a lawman. But his superior, Marshal Bob Scott, convinces him. For years, a major gang of cattle thieves led by rancher Champ Wylie has raided government grazing land. Lieutenant Governor Watson orders Bob Scott to arrest the cattle thieves. Disguised as a prospector, Scott is killed when he tracks the cattle thieves deep into the Sangre de Christo. When Mike hears nothing more from Scott, he goes incognito looking for him as a gold digger.
