Joe Walker and Nick Barter have a contract with the government to build a road at Rock Creek, Oregon. When salary payments for their employees are delivered via the stagecoach, this stagecoach is ambushed on the way by a gang that is employed by Walker. Distrustful settler Pete Dawson, who had traveled from Missouri to Rock Creek, goes incognito as the outlaw 'Apache Kid' in an attempt to steal the money back from Walker's gang and deliver it to the Rock Creek Sheriff. so that the road builders can still be paid. Problems for Dawson are his girlfriend Barbara, the daughter of settler and judge John Taylor, who doesn't understand his motives, and Walker, who has offered a reward for the 'Apache Kid'.
