Chatsworth, California. Dave Austin's father, Sheriff Austin, was murdered by Jim Hatfield. Dave accepts the installation as sheriff and he uses his father's sheriff's star. Dave goes after Hatfield. Hatfield is now the leader of a gang of outlaws, who are mainly concerned with cattle theft. The Hatfield gang kidnap Dan, the young brother of waitress Jean Williams and force him to sign checks in Jim Hatfield's name. Dave moves incognito among Hartley's outlaw gang. He hopes to play the outlaws against each other. But then Dave's identity is revealed...
