Fünf Patronenhülsen plot
The Spanish Civil War, the late 1930s. People of different nationalities are fighting together against the rise of fascism. The seriously wounded Commissioner Witting gives his five fellow combatants one last secret message, arranged in several parts. These are hidden in five empty cartridge cases and must be taken through the enemy lines to their own headquarters. During the perilous journey, the men try to cope with the enormous physical and psychological hardships. But one of them can no longer resist his tormenting thirst and is shot by the Falangists at a fountain. The other four must now reach their commander and then they will hear the text.
