Die Andere Front plot

Towards the end of World War II, 4,000 German soldiers are trapped in a boiler in a large swamp area in Russia. Their situation seems hopeless. Heinz Barnack, Lieutenant of the Armed Forces, has doubted the meaning of this war for some time. He joins a group of German and Russian anti-fascists because he wants to help end the war quickly while preserving as many soldiers' lives as possible. He launches a rescue mission.
