Chaco plot
Between 1932 and 1935, a fierce military conflict, the Chaco War, raged on the border of Bolivia and Paraguay. The reason: the suspicion of petroleum in the region. The film does not show the bloody war between the two sides, but the internal struggle of a small Bolivian regiment that wanders the inhospitable, arid Chaco plain in 1934. The group of indigenous soldiers consisting of Bolivians, Aymara and Quichua is led by the sullen German commander Hans Kundt. This European refuses to see how disastrous the mission has become and plans to push through. With each new day, each hellish hike and hastily set up encampment, isolation, despair and hunger grow visibly. This miserable war turns into an internal battle against its own demons.
