Loos plot

Lawyer Willem Loos is a renowned criminal lawyer. He becomes involved in a horrific case: a lust murder. Loos intuitively feels that the suspect, nightclub owner Harry Wery, is less innocent than he makes out. Then the mysterious Anna crosses his path. Loos is slowly encased in a sophisticated web, from which there appears to be no way out. Loos ends up in a world he never suspected existed.

Very nicely shot, strong acting by Janssen and a good annoying atmosphere. Sometimes a bit chaotic. 3.5*

The documentary series about Van Gogh on the vpro/npo reminded me of this film again - I saw it at the time, and I still remember some images of it. Not the very beautiful poster, by the way, I must have missed that at the time. From the poster I saw at the time, I still remember the beautiful sentence 'Love hurts. Very painful', but I can't find it anymore - that was always one of the associations I had with Van Gogh's films.

It's actually unfair that this film is so forgotten - apart from the minimal budget it's actually quite an okay film, with a pleasantly dark atmosphere and a strong enough story, and if you then take the budget into account it's quite brilliant what comes out of it. In terms of atmosphere it reminds me a bit of the thrillers of Jacques Post - another person with obvious talent who never really seems to have had any use for them.

In the cast especially the too often cast but undervalued Jongewaard, next to the rather unknown Jansen and Fokker. That also seems rather unfair. Three quarters of the 'famous Dutch people' do a lot worse in the films in which I have seen them. And a few nice cameos of people you may not even recognize, but whose names you should recognize.

The picture quality on my dvd (the double with Baby Blue) is pretty sad. I hope a better version will be available someday.
