Interior plot
Kasimir uses a hollow sofa to break into homes. Once inside, he secretly films the owners' lives. A few days later, the sofa is retrieved, with Kasimir inside. He delivers the tapes to the brain surgeon Dr. Liebermann, who is trying to learn how to sense human emotions. While Kasimir provides him with more footage of further burglaries to prove his love, the unimpressed doctor prepares a conscious operation for a young musician in his basement. Broken by unrequited love, Kasimir begins to deviate from Liebermann's dogma: never to interfere with what happens on camera. An unforgivable breach of trust for Liebermann, who decides to determine Kasimir's fate.
