Nice thriller, but not a film for van Gogh. Good cast but sometimes a bit forced and camera work gives it a tv-movie look. small 3*

Not a bad film by Theo van Gogh.

Indeed, also a bit Hitchcockian. We are in a new housing estate in Almere and follow a typical Dutch couple, with Roeland Fernhout once again showing his better sides. And then we also have that English couple that comes to live opposite them. And the ultimate secret of Peter also happens to be the ultimate secret of Marjan.... as well as that of the Woods.

The film still manages to stand up. Also because of some beautiful shots, those supporting roles of Najib Amhali and Jack Wouterse, some funny dialogues and the whole mystery that is formed. Also when we find out about the fraud tricks of Peter and the fact that Ron and Laura Wood turn out to be father and daughter.

Great snack.

3.5*

The other half of the Loos/Baby Blue DVD, and unlike Loos I hadn't seen this one at the time.

So now for the first time, and I have to say that I was not very pleased - unlike Loos, who turned out to be better than I remembered.

In itself, a lot of things go quite well - certainly one of the few Dutch films in which the language use of English and Dutch is somewhat okay. And for a Dutch film, the actors are also quite decent.

What does go wrong is the story and the tension - the story itself may be good, but it doesn't work for a film, the first hour or so is far too long-winded. By the time the cat starts to come out of the bag, you've definitely fallen asleep three times, dropped out. Just a bit too much hay on the fork, it seems like that in retrospect, although on the other hand there is the absurd story that part of the film was lost because the film cans were confiscated by cocaine smuggling.

There is a lot in the details though. Like the phrase 'been there, got the tshirt' - I thought that was much more recent. And seriously, there are still people buying those tshirts.
