When Worlds Collide plot

"Planets destroy earth!"

Scientists calculate that an out-of-orbit star will collide with our Earth in the foreseeable future. However, the governments of the world refuse to listen to the scientists. A number of private industrialists believe the scientists and together they finance the construction of a spaceship that will take a limited number of people and animals to another planet to build a new civilization there. As the doomsday approaches, the time pressure grows and the panic of those left behind grows.

Blueprint full of craters.

Because there are quite a few goofs and gaps in the plot. Still, this SF movie from the old box is quite entertaining and would later be 'remade' many times. Those versions were also anything but strong and gave a very literal meaning to the subgenre 'disaster film'.

Even more hilarious than the SFX is the original trailer. This reassured the public at the time with the announcement that the phenomenon of the colliding planets could not take place for millions of years.

Average.

Nice film in which a number of scientists are convinced that the earth will soon be hit by a large star. This early global disaster film can be seen as a blueprint for later similar films. Obviously outdated and at times rather clumsy, but that's part of the charm. In any case, the film certainly does not last too long.

Funny disaster film (which was remade in 1998 as Deep Impact) about a star that has lost its orbit and will collide with the earth in the foreseeable future. The impending doom is largely portrayed light-heartedly, but as the day in question draws closer, the film starts to get exciting. Nicely played and designed, although the special effects (which won an Academy Award at the time) obviously no longer have the impact they undoubtedly had almost 75 years ago.
