CAT. 8 plot
At the White House, scientist Jane Whitlow is about to demonstrate a global defense system. She doubts, because the system has never been tested and is probably unreliable. But Jane is pressured by the President, Vice President, and Secretary of Defense to go ahead with her presentation. At first, everything goes well: Jane manages to bombard the sun with a high-frequency pulse. But then the system falters, resulting in a huge eruption of solar flares. The panic is great, especially when Jane tells the president that the Earth will soon be hit by a severe solar storm that will have a devastating effect on satellites, energy networks, electronics and navigation systems. Soon after, the earth shakes violently and birds begin to fall dead from the sky.
