Earl Carroll Vanities plot
"Through these portals pass the most beautiful girls in he world."
Some members of a small European royal house arrive in New York City to secure a loan as their principality finds itself in a dire financial situation. While the Queen Mother Elena is negotiating, Princess Drina begins a love affair with Tex Donnelly, the owner of a nightclub. Tex gives her boogie woogie piano lessons. When Tex's regular singer Claire sprains her ankle, Drina is allowed to take her place and sing a few songs for Earl Carroll, a Broadway producer. Earl, who had actually come to see Claire perform, is impressed. Danny Baldwin, an associate of Tex, thinks Drina is trying to take Claire's place for good, but he finally agrees. Drina determines that both Dan and Tex are in love with her, but she is actually engaged to the Grand Duke and alcoholic Paul. Drina gets into trouble when Elina wants to take her back to Europe and forces her to cut ties with Tex, Dan and Earl.
