Douce plot
Paris, 1887. Douce, a young woman of 17, lives with her invalid father, Engelbert de Bonafé, and her domineering grandmother, the Countess of Bonafé. She is secretly in love with her father's flight attendant Fabien and dreams of running off with him. Fabien, in turn, is in love with Douce's teacher Irène. She owes her job to Fabien and he expects her to reward him by starting a new life together in the US. However, Irène has higher ambitions and accepts a marriage proposal from Douce's father Engelbert. Then Douce declares her love to Fabien. The two make plans to start a new life, but their happiness is short-lived.
