Will Handy grows up in Memphis with his father, a pastor, and his aunt Hagar. His father believes that Will should only use his musical talent in church, but Will cannot resist looking for music everywhere. He will perform with a band and accompanies a singer as he travels across America. He no longer speaks to his father and in the meantime he is becoming more and more famous.
