Venus plot

Stripper Lucía steals designer drugs from her employers with ties to the mafia. Lucía is hiding with her sister Rocío and niece Alba in Venus, a dilapidated apartment complex just outside Madrid. When her sister gives up on that one day, Lucía has to take care of Alba alone. And as if her vengeful employers weren't scary enough, the apartment turns out to be ravaged by evil.

Thoroughly entertained with this Spanish horror drama film, lightly based on HP Lovecraft's 'The Dreams in the Witch House'. Also with a delicious and tasty Ester Expósito as Lucía. Definitely deserved 8/10.

Wonderful bloody horror film that initially seems to be a crime film, but slowly unfolds into pure horror with a few top horror elements. The location of the evil that resides in the Venus apartment where sister Rocio (Ángela Cremonte) lives is a fantastic choice. Action and tension are assured with a kick-ass heroine of stature, namely the shapely attractive Lucia (Ester Expósito) who also gives something to the eye. But she is also very convincing in her actions and actions. There are also a lot of nice mafia heads to see, each with their own style. Of course, don't forget the three older ladies, where Magüi Mira is perfectly cast for her role. Fortunately, the child Alba (Inés Fernández) does not play an unpleasant role and is acceptable in her role. The story builds up nicely to a special bloody climax that manages to be somewhat surprising. Meanwhile, you are immersed in a dark world that surprises not only Lucia, but also her opponents. Atmospherically filmed with a few excellent shots that you just want to frame. Think of certain unpleasant dream images, the enormous robust helper of the women, Lucia's own sewing of the fatal wound, the explosion in the building, the creepy helper of the criminals who has her own method of investigating something, the scene where Alba is sacrificed and of course the final scene. Strong horror film and not really a surprise considering the director who has made Rec, Rec 2, Rec 4, Fràgiles, Mientras duermes, Darkness and The Nameless. 8/10

Director Jaume Balagueró has been active in the horror world for some time and Venus is his latest addition. It is clearly the result of a creator trying to be as creative and professional as possible, but in this case it ultimately turns out very foolish. There is little to be blamed for the cast members, because Ester Expósito in particular acts excellently. A clincher is the far too long run-up, in which the interaction between crime and sentiment is barely optimally realized. It takes a while for the film to get going and once it does, it ends up with entertaining bloodshed and an unpredictable continuation, but the final approach is so far-fetched that Venus leaves a relatively bitter aftertaste. Skillful in terms of layout and ambitious in terms of content, but I hope that Balagueró directs something more simplistic with his next project.
