Another nice snack from a director who probably also had to take it out on those dirty (child) rapists.

To start with, it is shot very unusual and fragmentary and the atmosphere is again nice and raw and smooth. The story is simple again: a son of a couple is kidnapped by a severely disturbed psycho who lives in his own world and is eventually killed. Parents decide to take revenge in fits and starts, and when they have the culprit in their hands, we can get some tasty torture before us again. And as a viewer it is always fun to watch, because those kinds of monsters just don't deserve better.

I also see quite a lot of similarities here with the Canadian 7 Days: the plot comes down to the same thing and the way that psycho is kidnapped too. Although 7 Days was a bit better. This is just another quick snack. The ending was also quite vague: At first you, as a viewer, would think that the parents had caught the wrong perpetrator, since there were two prisoners in that police van, but in the end they did have the right one. Wasn't that other prisoner's role a bit redundant?

3.0*

If you put the original away from you (not difficult if you haven't seen the French original of course)

And you condone the American sentiments mainly in the beginning (after all, they have a function)

Then this is a mediocre gross horror film, which is still reasonably doable due to the short running time.

The torture scenes are sometimes intense, but don't save the film.

All in all a 2.5 for me.

Nice revenge movie, or not...

It starts slowly, the first 30 minutes is only about processing the death of their son. They show the story with images.

But when they carry out the plan, it only begins. The kidnapping of the perpetrator is too easy, or too hard because they had the wrong one. Nice twist, you just felt sorry for the tortured man when he showed his note and hanged himself.

The torture scenes looked fine, yes they could do with more, but I didn't think it was bad, especially that dream/nightmare scene. I think if you see the movie again you'll look at it with different eyes and you'll just feel bad that they caught the wrong one. Now you only have that at the end.

The torture scenes looked okay. The twist is worth it. But the rest looked too rushed. Music could be better, acting too.
