"She's got murder on her mind and a sharp axe to grind!"

The psychopathic murderess Janis Long, nicknamed Janis Longknife, escapes from the Richmond Psychiatric Institute. Barbara Anderson, who lives in a remote mansion, is startled by the sound of an explosion. While investigating, she stumbles upon the burning wreckage of a crashed car and the unconscious bodies of a man and a woman. The charred remains of a third person are found in the wreck itself. After transferring the unconscious pair to the villa, Barbara takes up nursing. When the woman comes to, she introduces herself as Ruth Segal. The man turns out to be her husband Jack, a renowned art dealer. Jack is in worse condition than Ruth and suffers from amnesia: he no longer recognizes his own wife. When Barbara wants to call an ambulance, the trouble really starts...
