Those South Korean directors often have slick-looking productions with a nice puzzle plot. In 'Call' (2020), the traumatized Seo-yeon (Park Shin-Hye) manages to make telephone contact with the unknown contemporary Young-sook (Jong-seo Jun). To their surprise, the two young women are revealed to live in different timelines, which would mean that Young-sook in the past could change things for Seo-yeon in the future. Because didn't Seo-yeon's father die at a young age in a fateful kitchen explosion? Their intervention in the cosmic balance of things turns out to be the start of a roller coaster ride in which the two women are overtaken again and again by both their fate and the consequences of the rumble of time. It makes 'Call' (2020) a mixture of melodrama and light SF in the spirit of 'Frequency' (2000), 'The Butterfly Effect (2004) or the more recent 'Durante la Tormenta' (2018). Not really my genre, but this South Korean film soon turns out to have more spice than it initially seems. For example, the former best friends get involved in a catfight when they try to reclaim their own place from the other. Entertainingly villainous, but you have to be prepared to cover far-fetched or illogical plot twists with the cloak of love.

Aside from a few plot holes, I still enjoyed the movie. Entertainment and quite exciting. Not a horror, more of a thriller and almost in line with other light films such as The Butterfly Effect (2004), Frequency (2000) or Durante la Tormenta (2018). It never gets complex, because there are also within the genre. It's nice to see who has control over who here. Bizarre or maybe not that it is precisely these three films that Donderwoud cited as an example, as it turns out...

The metamorphosis of the abused girl to a psychopath is very short-sighted, but otherwise it is reasonably worked out. Beautiful shots, good camera work and also in terms of tension and mysticism it was good. Not world cinema, but quite entertaining.

Two opinions: I thought the film was good and a nice ongoing story, which became more and more exciting and I think it is worth a large 7 as an appreciation.

Other half had trouble picking up the story and rating is 2 lower, so a 5.

We arrive at a 6!, so a sufficient.

The story takes place in two "joints of time", one Seo-yeon, age 28, lives in the present and her mother is seriously ill and her father died in a fire 20 years ago. The other (thus still young) 8-year-old Seo-yeon still lives with father and mother 20 years earlier and her parents decide to buy a nice house.

The elder Seo-yeon meets a young woman who is the same age as her over the phone and after some timid conversations over the phone, they take fate into their own hands and change some things that happened in the past. Unfortunately, they don't know each other and self-interest counts too heavily as so often.

Also in this movie.

A 5 and a nice 7!
